Ubisoft CEO Faces Court Summons in Harassment Case

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot is set to be summoned to court in Paris, from June 2 to 6, 2025, to testify in a harassment trial involving three former Ubisoft executives. The executives, Serge Hascoët (former creative director), Tommy François (former vice president of editorial services), and Guillaume Patrux (former game director), face accusations of sexual and moral harassment and sexual assault. The trial, initially scheduled for March 2025, was delayed to allow lawyers more time to review the case documents.

Charges and Allegations

The three former executives are the primary targets of the complaints. Serge Hascoët is accused of lewd behavior, making intrusive questions of a sexual nature, and racist comments. One specific allegation involves Hascoët asking a Muslim employee if she supported Islamic State and subjecting her to Islamophobic harassment, such as changing her computer wallpaper to images of bacon sandwiches and placing food at her desk during Ramadan. Tommy François is accused of systemic psychological and sexual harassment, including watching pornography in the office, commenting on the appearance of female staff, public humiliation, hazing, and attempted sexual assault. Guillaume Patrux also faces accusations of harassment.

Complicity Charges

Yves Guillemot, along with Marie Derain, the current Director of Human Resources, are being summoned on charges of complicity in sexual and moral harassment. They are accused of being complicit in the “systemic nature of harassment” at Ubisoft. The French trade union Solidaires Informatique asserts that Ubisoft implemented a system that protected harassers and silenced victims.

Ubisoft’s Response and Actions

Following the initial allegations in 2020, Serge Hascoët resigned, and Tommy François and Guillaume Patrux were dismissed for serious misconduct. Ubisoft has stated its commitment to fostering a safe environment for its employees, partners, and communities. The company has also emphasized its efforts to reflect its values and ensure a secure workplace for everyone.

Trial Focus

The trial aims to highlight Ubisoft’s responsibility in maintaining a system that allegedly allowed harassment to continue for years. The focus is not only on the individual actions of the accused executives but also on the broader mechanisms within the company that enabled the misconduct. The trial is expected to delve into the company’s work organization and management practices.
