GameMaker has announced support for Nintendo Switch 2

GameMaker has announced that it has collaborated closely with Nintendo to make sure that games created in its engine can be exported directly to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, and can be made available on the system from “the moment it launches”.

There were several GameMaker titles from indie developers that were hugely popular on the original Nintendo Switch, including cult classics like Undertale and Pizza Tower.

Undertale’s follow-up Deltarune is similarly being developed in GameMaker Studio 2, and a paid version of the game including its next two chapters [Chapter 3 and Chapter 4] was announced as one of the console’s most anticipated launch titles during the Nintendo Direct focused on its new machine earlier this month.

“Announcing support for Nintendo Switch 2 from day one is huge for GameMaker and our developer community,” said Russell Kay, Head of GameMaker.

“Just as Nintendo championed independent creativity on the original Switch, we’re incredibly excited about the opportunities this deal with Nintendo unlocks for developers to bring a new wave of fantastic GameMaker games to players on what’s sure to be the next ground breaking console.”

GameMaker is set to share more details about their support for Nintendo Switch 2, including features, timelines and how developers that aren’t Undertale creator Toby Fox can get their games ready for the platform in the near future.
